Who should I contact to assist by brother to get assistance for caring for my parents

By Terry Savage on January 18, 2021 | Wild Card

Hi, my 60 year old brother has taken care of my ill mother and father for the last 5 years. He does not have a job. My mother died and he now cares for my 90 year old father. We’ve tried to contact gov agencies but get no response. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks for you time.

Oh,that’s a terrible situation, made worse by the pandemic, I’m sure. First contact Medicaid in your state. Every state has a department of aging. They would be able to find you home care visiting nurses or other professionals. I don’t want to recommend Medicaid, because they would likely put your elderly father in a nursing home, and these days that could be a death sentence. Can you afford home health care at least once a week to help with your father’s care. Search under home health care agencies. And inevitably your father will pass, and what will happen to your brother. You ARE your brother’s keeper too. Time to get more involved.
