Work after retiring from the railroad,
Hi Terry ,
I’ve been retired for almost 8 years. I spent 38 years working in the railroad industry and collecting my pension thru railroad retirement. I just received my social security statement telling me the amount I earned. I know railroad retirement looked into my earnings prior to 1979 with regards to calculating my railroad pension. But what about my earnings since I retired.
Right now social security says I can collect about $700 or about $1000 if I wait til age 70.
What I’m trying to find out is will this money affect my railroad pension in any way.
I currently collect about $8000 between me and my wife. I really don’t want to mess with that.
Any ideas.

There is only one way to know for sure the impact of earnings and offsets. That’s to use the MaximizeMySocialSecurity calculator, which will take into account ALL those issues and answer your questions. Here’s the link: https://maximizemysocialsecurity.com/
(I never trust what SS says — they’re clawing back $21B of their own mistaken calculations!)
