FICO score different on various sites

By Terry Savage on June 20, 2016 | Credit/Debt

My FICO score on my Discover statement is 589 and on credit karma it is 637 and 644. Why are they different? My credit consists of the gas company and 1 secure credit card. How to I raise my scores with such a little bit of credit?

Terry Says:  There are multiple versions of the FICO score, and several other scores as well, so there could be a small difference.  But it shouldn’t be this large.

Have you checked your credit report for errors?  Go to  www.annualcreditreport.com to get a FREE copy of your credit report from one of the three bureaus.  Or get one from each bureau, since the scores may be based on reports from any of the bureaus — and there may be an error on one of those reports.

In addition go to www.myfico.com to learn about the factors that influence your credit score.  There are some things you can do to help your score — paying bills on time and in full.  And there are other things that impact your score over which you have little control;  length of time at your current address, length of credit card history, job changes, etc.   So the key is to do the things that best help your score improve.
