Life Insurance Post Cancer Surgery

By Terry Savage on July 21, 2016 | Insurance & Annuities

Hello Terry,

I am 58 years old and a 2 year cancer survivor – I had my prostate removed. My Gleason score before surgery was 7. I am trying to obtain life insurance (approx:$100k) but no company appears to be interest unless the premium is equivalent to that of a mortgage payment … any advice if there are companies that underwrite cancer survivors?

Regards,

Terry Says:  I am posting the answer to this question to remind people that the time to buy life insurance is BEFORE you have an illness that makes you uninsurable!  I know of no company that will underwrite a 2-year cancer survivor at any “reasonable” price. But wait another three years and try again.  After 5 years, you become more insurable — but you will be older and so the policy will become more expensive.
