Ask Terry Questions senior debt

senior debt

By Terry Savage on October 26, 2017 | Credit/Debt

HI I contacted Debt Counsel for Seniors and the Disabled for my mother, but they are closed. She has a very large credit card bill and her monthly minimum payment is almost $500. I had hoped DCSD could help. Is there another option? Thank you. Therese McMahon

Yes, I was sorry to hear they had closed, after my high recommendation.  You'll want to call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227.  They may be able to intervene to lower the monthly payment and interest charges.  I hate to see seniors file for bankruptcy, but that may be her only alternative.
