Living alone or with someone — stimulus check

By Terry Savage on April 04, 2020 | Wild Card

Hi, hope this is not too redundant of a question. As my lady friend claims that she heard you say on TV that since she lives with her son & daughter in law that make over $150 k, and under their roof, that she is not entitled to receive a stimulus check. She filed her taxes as single, with less than $75k gross income. As I said to her that not sure that matters unless there is something else going on in the legal laws of requirements. Thanks,

Terry Says

If she filed her OWN return and is not listed as a dependent on her adult children’s return, and had AGI of under $75,000, then she will receive her OWN $1200 check — either by direct deposit if she had a refund that way, or by a check in the mail. It does not matter that she lives in a mailing address with a household that did not qualify.
