Stimulus check to spouse, if husband owes child support

By Terry Savage on April 09, 2020 | Wild Card

My husband and I filed taxes together for 2019. We have 2 kids ages 11 and 9 that we claimed. I didn’t deduct enough to earn anything more than child credits and my husband owes back child support so our tax return was withheld by the irs. I understand my husband won’t qualify for a stimulus check but will I receive one due to his back support issue and the fact we filed together…?

It is expected that the IRS will consider this an individual issue — since you are each supposed to get a check. They really haven’t established the systems yet, and haven’t released specific information. BUT, I think YOU will get a check for yourself. In fact, please write back and let me know what happens.
