Unemployment comp
I was working as independent contractor July 2019-Dec 2019 then started full time job Jan 2020 and was laid off Mar 2020 due to the virus situation. Applied for unemployment and received letter stating Not Eligible with no other details on how this was concluded. I found some info stating should be eligible if made at least $1600 which I did – now battling to appeal and cannot get through to unemployment. Can you confirm if I should be eligible? Any help would be appreciated. Bills piling up fast! thanks

Every state website is messed up. And no one can get through by phone because the offices are closed. I’m so sorry you got caught in this trap. All I can suggest is waiting a couple of weeks and applying again, when the sections of the website open up for the self-employed. Something ticked them off in your application for unemployment as an “employee” –perhaps because you didn’t work long enough. But as a self- employed person they will loo at your 2019 income and you may get through there.
