SSI-Medicaid
Terry: I have a 38 year old son who is an SSI iindividual with disability on medicaid. He lives permanently at a nursing home. He receives 750.00 per month form the State of Illinois which goes to the nursing home for food, housing, and utilities. He receives 30.00 per month from the 750.00 for personal use. He does not work. My question is what will he receive from the stimulus plan. And, if so; will that be sent to the nursing home or possibly presented to him in a separate check. I am concerned that the stimulus payment ends up in his possession. However, do not know what the payment would be. Tks so much for taking question. Know you are busy. Appreciated

This is a very tough one. I know for sure that the stimulus will be paid in the same way he gets his monthly benefits. And part of being on Medicaid is that they take your benefits, and allot only a small amount for “personal needs.” The care costs far more than the SSI (or in many cases SS retirement) payments that are received.
So in the same way that they state would come back and try to get assets that might have been transferred before a person went on Medicaid, I think they would feel entitled to this stimulus money. And that is compounded by the fact that THEY will get his payment on his card. So, I very much doubt that he will see a penny of it
