Stimulus Checks for taxpayer alive on March 27th, deceased on April 17th.
Hello. The Corona Virus Bill was signed into law March 27th. My husband and I received our stimulus checks on April 14th. My father died on April 17th. Thus far my father has not received his check, although the IRS.gov web site indicates his payment was processed on May 8th.
Is my father still eligible to receive his stimulus check?
Terry Says
Many checks have gone out to deceased people — some even were made out with the word “deceased” in the payee line!
Then Treas Secty Mnuchin decided that “dead people shouldn’t get checks’ and so the IRS reversed itself and asked people to return those payments.
BUT there is a LOT of legal question over this — because the act specifically prohibits a “clawback” of mistakes, and also the act says the money goes to anyone who filed a 2018 or 2019 return.
It’s up in the air. I’d hang on to the money and see what happens until the legal fight over this clears. Decision is up to you!
