Unemployment penalty for prior overpayment
Unemployment penalty during the pandemic. Good morning and thank you for taking my question, I was wondering since the pandemic is going on if I can still receive benefits even though I am serving a 23 week penalty from an overpayment from a previous unemployment claim. We were making payments towards the overpayment from unemployment then when I lost both of my jobs I wasn’t able to continue to pay my penalty phase and my unemployment stopped. I was wondering since this is aPandemic if there’s a way I could still at least get the $600 federal money, or if you have any suggestions where I could continue receiving unemployment during the pandemic. Thank you so much sincerely

Ugh — I really don’t have an answer to this one – -and it is a very complicated question. I suggest that you reapply for unemployment and see what happens. It would be nice to get certified, because the extra $600/week would go a long way to offset your past over-payment.
At least if you get turned down, when all of this settles you can file an appeal based on your denial — and maybe get that extra money you would have received credited toward your required payments!
