Unemployment comp — didn’t earn enough from new job to qualify

By Terry Savage on July 28, 2020 | Wild Card

Terry – I went on partial furlough 7.1, applied for unemployment and denied because I didn’t “make enough money outside my highest earning quarter”. I’ve been with my current employer since 2.10.20, resigning from my previous employer so those earnings don’t qualify, I’ve since applied to PUA and it’s been 3 weeks with “pending issues” and no explanation. I’m still in their ‘queue’ and it’s been 2 weeks. Any advice? And bless you – I listened to you on WGN today 🙂

Ugh — this is going to be tough. The rules require you to have earned at least $1600 at THIS employer — and that has to include at least $440 in any quarter beyond your “best” quarter. You’re going to face this test in the PUA (SELF-EMPLOYED) unemployment questionnaire. So I don’t think you’re going to qualify for benefits. Sorry.
