Stimulus check for young adult
When my 24 year old filed his 1040 he inadvertently checked that we were claiming him as a dependent. His amended return was delivered to IRS on April 8th but is still not showing up on “where is my amended return” on IRS.gov. Is this best way to track amended return? We also want to know if he is eligible for a stimulus check. If eligible, will stimulus check be triggered by the amended return or do we need to file something else?

If he doesn’t get the stimulus check, then next April — when he files his 2020 return — he can claim the $1200 as a credit. But this mistake might not be rectified in time for him to get the “first’ stimulus check by mail or direct deposit. However, it should take effect in time for him to receive a second stimulus check– IF there is another round of payments!
