Unemployment — strange happenings
I was furloughed beginning 5/17/20. On 5/21 I applied for unemployment benefits. UI finding letter was dated 5/22 and indicated “payment method: Pending Debit Card”. On 6/3 I decided to try certifying even though it was my understanding I needed to be denied first, which I never received. I certified for benefits covering 5/17-5/23 and 5/24-5/30. I never heard anything and no money was deposited into my account as I had requested rather than loading it on to the debit card. Fast forward, I listen to you on WGN and on 8/14 decided to check the debit card to see if any funds were on it. There was $1108. I don’t have any details on that amount and never received notice that it was there. I figured I wasn’t getting unemployment and never recertified for the following weeks through 7/31. Am I too late to certify for the rest of the weeks?
Terry Says
This is just another example of the horrible mess that is IDES! Try certifying again for those weeks. If you can’t do that and they won’t let you in, please post again. You definitely deserve this money. Were you able to spend the money on your card? I’m wondering if some fraud was attempted and your money in the subsequent weeks was transferred to another bank account. Let me know what happens when you try to certify again.
