New Federal unemployment retroactivity
Terry,
I have been on furlough, and thus collecting unemployment benefits. I had a job interview that went well over the phone, and the company wants me to meet with them
this Tuesday for a face to face interview. I fit their needs so I believe I will get a job offer. The guidelines for unemployment are clear, if you refuse a job opportunity, you end unemployment . This does not bother me, what does will I lose all the retroactive
pay (that has been rumored) that I should accumulate from the payments from August 1st to the present? I made a lot of money at one time, so my unemployment checks are of good quantity.
I stand to lose a couple of thousand, because the state of Illinois is going to be slow
initiating payments of the new Federal funds, as they have been all along getting unemployment checks to their citizens
Thank you

I’m telling people not to hold their breath for those $400/week unemployment payments. Illinois has to completely revise its systems — and they still haven’t finished getting the first round of payments out!
but yes, you are entitle to the regular payments that you should have been receiving in August. Whether you will ever get the “extra” stimulus is questionable.
But for goodness sake, if you get a job with benefits, take it! Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish! Good luck and I hope you get this job!
