Unemployment benefits – not in my name/ but my address
Mine is a twist on your previous questions, in that I received the unemployment benefit letter and separate mailing with the debit card, in someone else’s name but my address. I plan on calling the IDES office in the morning, but what does this mean exactly? If they have my address, is it fraud against both of us? Thank you for your services and your amazing spots on WGN. Love listening to you!

It might be. At least follow the instructions in this article to make sure that no one has opened any new accounts in your name. Look carefully for “inquiries’ from a bank — and if you see one, contact them to make sure no one opened an online account using your info to get benefits. And follow the other instructions if it looks like they did open a bank account somewhere — including reporting it to the FBI.
