Unemployment over payment — what to do??

My daughter received a notice last week from IDES informing her she received an over payment of $805 (about $79 per week). IDES is asking for the over payment be remitted in full by Jan 5, 2021. Please advise if she is legally obligated to return the over payment. Thank you.

You are part of a growing next disaster with IDES — Thousands of people received these letters. Given the ineptitude of IDES I would suggest just waiting to see what happens. Of course, if she is currently receiving unemployment benefits, they will deduct the amounts they think she owes. And in the future, they could dock state income tax refunds. But if they ever get around to suing recipients for their own IDES mistake, there will be a huge uproar! Tough — but I’d suggest just waiting it out and see what happens. The Governor is not going to be happy about IDES handling this matter!
