Can’t file 2020 return electronically

By Terry Savage on March 25, 2021 |

Can’t electronically file 2020 taxes because it will not accept ANY amount for AGI, even 0. IRS does not show a return processed for 2019, even though they cashed our check (mailed in). Cannot get thru to IRS. Not sure what to do next.

Are you trying this on your own? Are you using software from TurboTax for example? I’d suggest getting professional help filing. But if this persists, it’s possible that your SS number was stolen and someone else filed a return. You should contact the IRS taxpayer advocate at 1-877-777-4778

But don’t do that until you have tried using other software or a professional to file your return electronically. It might just be a bug in the filing software that you are using. There are several providers of FREE electronic filing services if your AGI is under $72,000. Go to www.IRS.gov/freefile.
