By Terry Savage on August 24, 2022 | College Savings / Student Loans

Hi TERRY.
I co-sign my son student loan ( $55000 ), he finished 4 years of college.
I myself took a small student loan( $7000 ) for a technical school for a certificate in HVAC, just graduated.
My question is while signing off my EXIT COUNSELING online ,my small loan was combine with my son big loan and i just wanted to know if is possible to have the loan servicer separate my loan from my son.s one ,also if is possible that the loan servicer go after my son if he doesn’t making he’s payment?
best regards.

First, I’m glad you got a degree and hope it will pay off.
I’m assuming these re PRIVATE loans, NOT Federal Student Loans. That would be the only way they could be consolidated, since you are different borrowers.
How long ago did this Exit counseling session happen? You may have the right to rescind that decision. It was a bad one!
Now you’re both on the hook for a lot of money. And the Federal plan does NOT involve forgiveness for private loans.

Please write back or email me Terry@TerrySavage.com with details of this “exit counseling” and who is the lender, and how this happened. Let’s see if we can get at least this small part of your problem fixed.
