Ask Terry Questions Debt Relief for Military

Debt Relief for Military

By Terry Savage on August 28, 2022 | College Savings / Student Loans

Hi Terry,
My son went to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he studied to be a Pilot and get a degree in Aeronautical Science as well as be in the ROTC program. Needless to say, we covered the majority of costs for this but have ended up with a loan balance currently at $108K. He is now an officer in the Air Force, 3 years now, and we rolled his debt into a lower interest SOFI education loan with myself as the co-signer. If I understand correctly he is not eligible for the new debt relief $10k that was recently announced so curious if there are other options with his dynamic that we should consider to help alleviate this burden for him as he is making all the payments, I just co-signed to get him the loan.
Thanks in advance and love your commentary and guidance on WGN.

Sorry about that, but once you roll out of your Federal student loan, this new debt relief program will not apply. But I decided to search farther, and found this interesting possibility for your son. He should look into it!
