Medicare
Hi Terry. My wife and i turn 65 in Dec. and Jan. I am on my wife’s company insurance. Its a large company. We spoke to Boomer Benefits and they said it would be cheaper to go on Medicare. And if we stay on my wife’s insurance, do we need to at least enroll in part A? Boomer Benefits had us in plan N . I’m not too familiar with that. I think G is better. Your thoughts?

Whew, I hate to disagree with them, but that strategy seems strange.
First, when you DO get on Medicare, I would strongly suggest you get — and stick with Supplement G. It is a bit more costly, but you’ll have less out of pocket expense.
Second, did you give them the true cost of your wife’s insurance premiums (including coverage for you) — the amount SHE pays, deducted from her paycheck? It is rarely cheaper to go on Medicare than to take your company benefits.
You can do the comparison yourself, when you see the premiums for both of you for Part B, Drugs, and your supplement for 2026. Maybe she has a very expensive company plan, but I’d want you to see the numbers before acting.
And finally, if she can contribute to a health savings account, you definitely do NOT want to sign up for Part A, even though it is free. It means you can no longer contribute to your HSA.
