New Social Security Login?

By Terry Savage on October 31, 2025 | Wild Card

Hello Terry,
I recently tried to log into social security. I had not done so for awhile. It instructed me to use “Login.gov” to access my social security account and to create a new account. I started to follow the prompts but got concerned that they were asking for personal information, such as, take a picture of the front and back of your drivers license or of your passport and download it to us, also give us your telephone number and social security number. I exited Login.gov before I gave this information. Can I trust Login.gov? This website is new to me and did not here that social security was changing its format and log in. Thanks for all your help.

Yes, almost all secure US government logins for various agencies (think TSA) now require you to use a Login.gov account. And yes, you have to give them a LOT of information!
