Medigap coverage
My mother went in to get help from a ship counselor to take care of part D coverage. She ask the counselor about medigap coverage and that her plan was getting expensive . She is on one that is not offered anymore. The counselor went over some options and told her she can call any of the insurance companies that they went over to change her plan. The counselor told her she can change it anytime. My questions is can you change your Traditional medicare medigap supplemental coverage any time of the year even after open enrollment ends?
Terry Says
WHOA! I don’t think she understood the risks here. I know Supplement policies get more expensive every year. But you don’t just change supplements. If you have a preexisiting medical condition, a new supplement won’t take you!
She should just stick with what she has — because she risks losing coverage, or getting stuck into an Advantage plan, with all its limitations, if she decides to change. And that can only be done during Open Enrollment.
