Finding lost US savings bonds

By Terry Savage on December 21, 2025 | Wild Card

I have recently discover that I have list all my savings bonds from 1950’s through 1980’s. These were birthday gifts and other categories. I have asked at several local banks in the area, with no results. I don’t have serial numbers or other identifying marks. What do I do? Hopefully my social security number will be enough to identify these bonds. Thanks for your help.

The Treasury has just discontinued its TreasuryHunt service. Now you have to go through state unclaimed property departments to see if there is anything in your name. If you live in Illinois, the website is https://icash.illinoistreasurer.gov/

But since you have names/dates, you might be able to do some digging at this portion of the TreasuryDirect site: https://www.treasurydirect.gov/savings-bonds/manage-bonds/

Good luck and let me know if you find them!
