Ask Terry Questions Medicare Part F

Medicare Part F

Note: I also sent this in by email before seeing the ‘Contact’ menu option!

I just found out last week that my job is being eliminated and I am getting severance along with the opportunity to retire.
I am 73, DBO 6/24/1952 and signed up for Social Security a bit after turning 70. I signed up for Medicare Part A at the same time. Medicare Part A effective 1/1/2022.

I have an appointment to meet with a Medicare Specialist to discuss my options, but would like to go into it with a little knowledge before hand. Based on a little research I have done (remembering your mention of Medicare Part F on WGN some time ago), I believe I should still qualify for Medicare Part F. Is this correct? Is this preferable to Medicare A, B and
Medigap (supplemental)? I realize Part D and eye care/dental is separate.

Terry Says

You’re talking about supplements. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan F is the most comprehensive Medicare Supplement option available for qualifying Medicare seniors.
Specifically, this plan covers 100% of your Medicare cost-sharing and leaves you with no out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare-covered services.

BUT, it is only available to those who received any part of Medicare before January 1, 2020. I don’t think you qualify on that basis.
So sign up for Plan G — the next most comprehensive. It requires an annual deductible.
Compare Supplements at Medicare.gov. Or get help at eHealth.com. Prices will be the same.
