Ask Terry Questions Medicare enrollment

Medicare enrollment

By Terry Savage on February 20, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

I’m turning 65 next month. I’m currently employed and covered under my spouses insurance. This employer has over 100 lives insured. I’m at the point where I want to quit my job or retire ASAP and not sure which is better option. I want to sign up for Medicare part A now but keep my husband’s insurance and not sign up for part b now. Can you help me understand what I should do? I’m struggling with the stress! Thanks

Terry Says

There is absolutely no reason to sign up for Part A as long as your husband’s insurance does not require it. And it would keep him from making a contribution to a Health Savings Account.

Keep your husbands insurance as long as he has it — even if you retire
