Column 6/1 — class warfare?

By Terry Savage on June 01, 2026 | Wild Card

Very disappointed in the class warfare of “the rich” who benefit so it’s easy to fill our cars/jets with gas, buy food/eat out every night and travel to exotic locations in a whim. You just described a very healthy portion of regular retirees (sans jets, etc) who are “the wealthy” because they played by the rules and have assets built by compounding time. Do you mean to launch into class struggle sessions?

Terry Says

Ha! Absolutely no intention to create “class warfare” — just describing a well-known phenomenon called the “K” shaped economy. I’m glad you’re in the upper leg of the “K” — feeling no pain. But far more are indeed feeling the squeeze of rising prices, with little flexibility but to cut back somehow. That “should” impact the economy — yet stocks are still broadly rising, with the indexes making new highs. The point of the column is that there is another greater force — the capital investment cycle focused on the new AI economy, data centers etc.
But since you’re so well off, may I suggest a contribution to your local food depository. It seems the lines are growing longer.
