Changing from Medicare Adv to regular Medicare with drug prescription

By Terry Savage on October 20, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

For the last few years I have had Medicare Advantage with Humana,Aetna, and now in 2026 Anthem.
I am not unhappy with this plan, but I am 79 years old and concerned for the future.
I have asthma, psoriosis which I will have to take a shot every 3 months (Solarsdi) for the rest of my life and a few other drugs that are not expensive. Can I return to regular Medicare with the prescription supplement, etc without having to sell my house?

Terry Says

That’s the issue with Advantage. IT works great while you’re well. But your only “guaranteed issue” rights to a supplement regardless of health come in the 6 months after you first sign up for Medicare. Now, you can switch Advantage plans during open enrollment — but it’s tough to go back to Original Medicare because you may not qualify for a good supplement.
