Ask Terry Questions 1099 discrepancy

1099 discrepancy

By Terry Savage on April 03, 2022 | Wild Card

My husband’s Medicare covers his health insurance so it is small when we did not receive his 1099 at the end of Feb he called and was told it would come by 3/14. It did not arrive. When we did our taxes last week with turbo Tax they said to add 7.5% to last years amount. We did that. The other day we received the 1099 which was about 1 dollar and change different. Do we need to file an amended return?

Terry Says

No. If there’s a slight discrepancy the IRS will contact you whenever they get around to it. And, if they contact you before at least two years, please write back and let me know. It will be a great column if they go after you for a dollar — while millions of people are still waiting for their tax refunds from last year!!
