529 college plan money not needed
How can I avoid the $9000 tax after I close the account if my son gets a full scholarship this year. I can’t roll it over to another 529 because I don’t have any other kids and I can’t transfer it to a relative because there are no school-age children.

Leave it in the plan for now! Congratulations on the scholarship. I’m guessing that a year from now, he will be considering graduate school! That will be a perfect use for it! (Or he can keep it and use it for HIS children– your future grandchildren!) Meanwhile it will keep growing over the years!!
