529 Plans

By Terry Savage on March 25, 2020 | College Savings / Student Loans

I have a BrightStart Illinois 529 plan for my son who is 21 and already in college and for my daughter 18 who will start college next year. I am in the most conservative age based index fund and thought the glide path would eventually go to a money market. I see on their website that the most conservative mix is 50% cash and 50% bonds. Any advice on what I should do at this point? Thanks!

I believe they also give you an option to go to a money market alternative for the entire thing. Your time horizon is very short in both instances. And you need to know where you stand to manage your payments and your daughter’s college aspirations. Read the column about college acceptances and Covid coming up on my website in a day or two.
