Ask Terry Questions Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy

By Terry Savage on January 05, 2025 | Credit/Debt

Can you file bankruptcy for yourself if your house and other holdings have always been in your spouse’s name, and not affect your spouse?

Terry Says

Check your credit report — and your spouse’s report. I think you’ll find that your credit is intertwined in some ways. So that’s likely not a good move. But the way to find out for sure is to contact the National Non-profit Consumer Credit Counseling Services at 800-388-2227. You can trust their advice.
