Ask Terry Questions Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy

By Terry Savage on December 04, 2018 | Credit/Debt

I’ve seen 2 Bankruptcy attorneys & I’m not sure if I’m going to file but one told me to stop paying all my bills and the other said keep paying them. What do I do

Immediately call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227.  That will automatically connect you to the nearest local office.  You can trust them.

Here’s the thing — bankruptcy laws vary by state.  Some states let you keep more of your stuff (home, car, personal possessions) and you need good advice immediately.  If you stop paying your bills, some creditors will place a lien on your property, or get a court order to garnish your wages.  That messes up your life even more!

NFCC will help you decide the best course, and may even refer you to a bankruptcy attorney you can trust.  Please write back and let me know what happens.
