Blue Cross Blue Shield Medigap Household Discount

By Terry Savage on November 08, 2022 | Insurance & Annuities

I have had a BCBS PlanG medigap plan since 2015. I just learned of the Household Discount Program. There are two people in our household with this plan, a requirement, but was told only policies that were purchased after May 1, 2019 are eligible. Do you know why and how this is legal? I was offered a plan G plus plan and was told it would be considered a new plan and I would get the discount then… I remembered you saying, if I heard you correctly, that once you loose plan G you can’t get it back, I declined the GPlus it didn’t sound worth it. Please advise.
Thanks in advance for your assistance, and your never ending knowledge.

You’re caught in an insurance industry game! Here’s the difference between Plan G and Plan GPlus:
High Deductible Plan G offers the same benefits as Plan G. Yet, while High Deductible Plan G comes with a lower monthly premium, beneficiaries also must pay the higher deductible before receiving full coverage.

What you might save in premiums, you will pay in higher deductible if you need to use the insurance. Stick with Plan G.
I’m honestly not sure of that “deal” with the household discount. But you can be sure there’s a hidden cost — likely the one that is described above! This is “bait and switch” for the unaware!!
