Can Parent Change PLUS loan to son’s name?

My son is paying for the Parent Plus loan that we took out for him 10 years ago. He thought it would be great if he
could get the loan in his name as he is paying for it anyway and then he could get the credit. So since the loan is in my name I called Sallie May twice and was told both times that I cannot change it to his name. Your recent column seemed to suggest that this was possible. If you could direct me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Terry Says:  Go to www.SoFi.com.  If your son has good credit and a good job, he may be able to take on official payment for those loans.  If not, you can probably refi the loans to a lower rate in your name.
