College loans

By Terry Savage on June 27, 2022 | College Savings / Student Loans

My children will need to take out student loans unfortunately after any federal loans they receive. Are there any companies that are easier to work with/trust then others? Sallie Mae seems popular but not sure if there are other smarter choices. Thanks!

This is the first step into the valley of debt death! Have you examined all the other options — including first two years at home? Attending community college? Have you worked with your college counselor at the high school asking about Merit Aid?
Have you considered working with a private advisor– even for just a session — who might find a college that is offering additional aid to fill their classes –even for geographic diversity. I highly recommend Eva Dodds at www.RootCollegeAdvising.com.

Please don’t just wander into private student loans (or even federal parent PLUS loans) without understanding all the consequences. Do some self-education at www.Finaid.org.

And it can’t hurt to check for scholarships at Scholarships.com and Fastweb.com.

There ARE alternatives — be smart about this!
