When I pay off a credit card should I close the account ? I currently have 7 cards i’m paying down not using .

Keep the oldest card because it shows longevity of credit history. But yes, close most of the others. Ask them to report it as closed at the request of the cardholder. then check your credit report in a few months to make sure that’s how it appears. You probably don’t need more than two or three cards.
