Credit card debt

By Terry Savage on June 01, 2022 | Credit/Debt

Hi Terry,
I am 68 years old with $14,000.00 credit card debt. My monthly pension is only $1,600.00. From that amount I need to pay mortgage, utilities, food, insurance, etc. I have a little part time job during the school year.
What can I do to fix this huge hole I made for myself.
It’s very embarrassing!!
Thank you!!
I had originally put money aside to cover that debt but then my dog got sick…two surgeries and many office visits well no more savings and my girl did pass away.
Thank you again. I don’t want to sell my townhouse yet.

I suggest you immediately contact the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227. That will automatically connect you to the nearest local office. You can meet with them in person or over the phone. They can help you work with your creditors to perhaps reduce the balance orlower the rate on your card. You don’t want to go bankrupt over this relatively small amount. And if you could earn just a little bit of money every week, you might be able to get back on track.
Life happens — and this is not the end of the world. You are wise to act on this now before it becomes a larger burden because of unpaid interest. Please let me know how the session goes.
