Ask Terry Questions Credit card debt, unemployed, on Medicaid

Credit card debt, unemployed, on Medicaid

What would you suggest for someone who:
10K Credit card debt, unemployed, on Medicaid, but owns house outright due to inheritance?

Terry Says

Well, your house can’t be attached to pay credit card bills — but how are you managing to keep the house, pay the taxes, etc.  Maybe you’d be better off selling the house and putting the money in the bank, and renting (though that IS expensive) — AND getting a job if you can?

There are a LOT of moving pieces in your story. You need someone to sit down and go over your personal situation — someone you can trust.  I suggest you call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227.  That should connect you to the nearest local office.  Go in and talk with them (or do it over the phone) and have all your financial information in front of you.  You can trust them to help you get through this.  And it is free, or very inexpensive.
