Ask Terry Questions Credit Freezes

Credit Freezes

By Terry Savage on September 17, 2024 | Credit/Debt

Hi Terry. My husband and I are big fans of yours. Read all your newspaper, computer columns and listen to your radio show every Wednesday night.
I have a question re: Credit Freezes. I froze our credit (in each of our names), with the three Credit Bureaus, in 2017. We are now both retired and wanted to avoid any fraudulent activity on our accounts. We have not, and in the foreseeable future, do not plan on taking out any loans, etc..
My question is whether there is any detriment to keeping the accounts frozen for now, indefinitely – unless, of course, we need to temporarily unfreeze them, to make a purchase, take out a loan, etc..?

Terry Says

There is no drawback to keeping your credit frozen. Your only responsibility is to remember your PIN!!
