Data breach notice of deceased father
I have received a data breach notice from Bansley and Kiener, LLP. On behalf of my deceased father , since 2010.
To the best of my knowledge there is no more accounts in his name in existence anymore. Not sure if I should act on this or if it is a scam to get information. The notice was received by mail USPS.
Also , it is giving me information to contact KROLL for identity monitoring services. This is why it seems a bit fishy.
Thanks for assistance.

If your father is deceased for a decade, you are not responsible for any identity theft using his name. But it might be advisable to check with Social Security and make sure that they not only know he is dead (they probably do because you stopped his SS checks, but to make sure that someone else is not reporting income currently on his SS number. Ditto with one of the major credit bureaus — tho if he is deceased, you probably won’t be able to find any information under his name, last address and SS number. If there IS something going on with his info, then definitely notify all three bureaus.
But, again, you are not responsible. This law firm was likely handling a breach and your father’s old customer data may have been still in the system of the company that was breached. So they sent out a form letter.
