Disability/ early retirement

By Terry Savage on August 14, 2025 | Social Security

Hello, I was holding when John Williams ran out of time. Quick question. I was finally granted disability in May, and also turned 62. I was told I don’t need to file for early retirement cause the disability pay is the most I can get. Is this true.?
Thanks for time

Sorry we left you hanging. At your Full Retirement Age, you will automatically be transferred to your earned SS benefit. You don’t have to worry about that. And you can’t get both SS and DI at the same time. But you will be eligible for Medicare after two years on SSDI — even if that occurs before age 65, which is the eligibility age for Medicare.
