Ask Terry Questions FICO Scores

FICO Scores

By Terry Savage on August 19, 2023 | Credit/Debt

I’m concerned that my Discover reported FICO score is well over 800 while my FICO score as reported by Experian is barely over 700. It has been this way for a long time.
Is this an issue I should be worried about ( I’m 81 n won’t be buying another home- it’s paid off )?
If I should be concerned, how do I go about
“Fixing” this?

Discover uses the FICO score, while Experian uses the Vangage scoring model. But, yes, I would be concerned about that big a differential. So I suggest you get your credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus, and check carefully to make sure someone else’s bad credit isn’t being reported on your report.

You can’t dispute your SCORE, but you CAN and should get errors on your actual credit report corrected immediately.
