Filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

By Terry Savage on December 10, 2018 | Credit/Debt

Hi Terry,
I’m 58 years old, and due to a variety of medical bills (and my own ignorance), I find myself deeply in debt (around $65,000 in credit cards/loans). On advice given by you on the WGN Morning News, I contacted the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and discussed my financial situation with one of their counselors. My counselor instructed me that my best option was to file for a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. My questions to you are what kind of questions should I be asking a bankruptcy attorney to determine if they’re competent? Is there/are there websites to check out prospective attorneys’ backgrounds, histories, reviews, rate comparisons, etc.?

I appreciate your time and insight.

Well, I’m sorry it has come to that, but at least you know that by getting counseling from NFCC, you explored every other alternative.  Sometimes life just happens.  I’m pretty sure NFCC will give you some attorneys names. But I’d not, surprisingly a good place to search is on Yelp!
