Finding amount of social security benefits for past 4 years

By Terry Savage on February 17, 2025 | Social Security

I receive monthly SS benefits, but not enough to pay my monthly Medicare bill. I received a letter from SS stating monies owed this year due in October. They told me my monthly premium and my monthly SS benefit and it was easy to figure out the difference and multiply by 12 to equal the amt. owed. My problem lies in an additional bill for past years. After calling SS, they sent me info about my previous yearly Medicare premiums. They can’t seem to tell me what my SS benefits were for these previous years, 2020-2024. Is there anywhere to access this information so I can determine the accuracy of monies I owe or is there someone beside SS that I could talk to. Thx!

So let me see if I get the situation right — Your monthly benefit is never enough to pay for your Medicare Part B premium? So they sent you a bill for the difference.
AND, they finally got around to sending you a bill for previous years?

I would accept their calculations because it will be almost impossible to go back and figure out your monthly benefit for previous years (unless you have a 1099, which you sent in with your tax return). If you did file a return, then you can know how much you earned each year. And in that case, let me know and I can probably go back and find the standard Part B Medicare premium for each year.

The real question is whether you are getting correctly calculated SS benefits — and whether they were reduced in previous years because of a public pension offset (WEP). I hate to ask you to spend another $49, but if you go to www.MaximizeMySocialSecurity.com, and go through the process, they will check your earnings record and see if — before deductions for Part B — you are getting the correct monthly benefit.
