Finding complete history on stock using cusip
Hi Terry, my late father died in 1985 and I just found and recovered abandoned assets being held by the state of North Carolina. The assets were stock in the Cantel Medical Corp CDM under the listed cusip number. I am trying to find out as much about this individual purchase he made before his death in 1985 in the hope of learning of any other financial investments still unclaimed. I have tried internet searches of unclaimed property in other states but had no luck. I am surprised that my father had any type of investments and hope that finding the when, where and how of this cusip no. may uncover any more sill unclaimed.

Well, this could be interesting! First, if you have the CUSIP (the registration of the company) you might have an advantage. Assuming you have the stock certificate in order to get the cusip number. Turn the certificate over and you will find the “transfer agent” — the company that maintains stock registrations. They should be able to tell you the history of the stock, whether it went bankrupt or was purchased for shares in another company.
If all else fails there is a company called Stock Search International — that traces old stock certificates. But they charge a fee, or take a piece of the value if there is substantial value. Here is the link to their website. http://www.stocksearchintl.com/
