If I have health insurance with my employer as part of my retirement package, why must I sign up for Medicare part B?

As long as your employer is a large company -- 50 or more employees -- you don't have to sign up until you retire. But for smaller companies, with fewer employees, Medicare becomes the primary payer, and your company plan becomes secondary. So it depends on the size of your company plan.
