Heath care

By Terry Savage on October 31, 2025 | Insurance & Annuities

Hi Terry, my wife will be retiring in June of 2026, at the age of 62, I’m currently retired and when my wife retires l will be 64, we currently have health care under her employer. We will be needing heath care coverage next June and was looking for your advice , or if you could recommend someone that can assist us with coverage options. I recently went on line looking for options and have been bombarded with emails and phone calls from brokers asking for personal information to give me a quote . I would prefer someone that we could sit down with face to face to discuss options.

Thank you very much for your time!!

I’m an avid listener of WGN they keep me informed on a daily basis, I look forward to your financial advice on the show as well 😁

OK, so here’s the first big question: Does your wife REALLY have to retire at age 62? You are going to be shocked to find out how much your insurance policies — for each of you– are going to cost! Maybe she can work out something with her employer to continue to work enough to get insurance benefits for both of you — or at least until you qualify for Medicare at age 65.

Failing that, I suggest you go online to ehealth.com and speak to one of their agents. You do have to give them information, because health insurance policies differ by state.
And maybe the best coverage is Obamacare (Healthcare.gov) which is based on your projected income. But even those premiums are about to rise dramatically.

Again, quitting work is going to cost more than her lost salary!
