House Insurance
Why can’t I purchase house insurance for my mother’s house. I am living in the house. I do have paperwork from our attorney that I am power of attorney for property and her health. Why is it so difficult!

It shouldn’t be difficult. Are you dealing with a major company like Allstate or State Farm? Find a local agent and meet in person. Let me know if you’re still having problems. That would make an interesting story. Of course, the insurance would be in the name of the actual homeowner — the name on the title. Despite your power of attorney, you can’t be the actual insured unless your name is on the title with her. (Or this might be the time to create a Revocable Living Trust and put the house into the trust. You could be a co-trustee, and that would solve this problem. There is no tax consequence to re-titling the name into the RLT.
