I BONDS and ID.me

By Terry Savage on October 25, 2026 | Wild Card

We are having trouble with the ID.me log-in. When our I BONDS mature in May 2027 won’t they just be deposited in our bank account that they were bought with, do we really need an ID.me account if weren’t not going to reinvest? Should we just take the money now and forget trying to deal with this problem? MY husband was verified but can’t get in his account, It tells me I already
have an account with ID.me and I never opened one. I did go into my account with treasury direct and it’s fine. Thank you for all your help!

Terry Says

So you have TWO TreasuryDirect accounts? Or just one, and the I-bonds are in it?

Your I-bonds won’t “mature” in 2027 –unless you bought them 30 years ago! If you ever want to sell them, cash them in, you’ll need access to the TreasuryDirect account that holds the bonds.

So if it’s a separate account, and you can’t access it becausae you’re having trouble with ID.me for THAT account, please write back with your phone number and I’ll send your info to ID.me, and they will reach out.
